Responsive Web Design – Flexibility in Size and Form

In essence, responsive web design Dallas (also known as RWD) is the approach to web design which makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and windows or screen sizes. Today, they also consider the proximity of the viewer as part of the viewing context as an RWD extension.

A site designed with RWD is the approach to design which adapts the layout to the viewing environment with the use of fluid proportion-based grids, flexible images, and CSS media queries.

Today, it has become more important as the amount of mobile traffic now accounts for more than half of the total Internet traffic in all forms (on desktop computers and laptops). Google had also started to boost the ratings of sites that are mobile friendly.

Design

Today’s new clients want a mobile version of their website. The essential design is tailor-fit for Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, netbook, Kindle. The requirement is that the resolutions must be compatible too.

In the field of web designs and development these days, there had been demands for new resolutions and devices. Designers are now deciding that design and development respond to the user’s behavior and environment.

Designs now use a mix of flexible grids and layouts, images and an intelligent use of CSS media queries. When the user switches from laptop to iPad, the website is automatically switched to accommodate for resolution, image size and scripting abilities.

Responsive design is not only about adjustable screen resolutions and the automatic resizable images, but more as a whole new way of thinking about design.

New devices with new screens are being developed every day and each of these can handle variations in size, functionality, and color. Some are in landscape, others in portrait. With the popularity of the iPhone and other Smartphones, many new devices are able to switch from portrait to landscape on a whim.

Designing these needs to include such considerations as hundreds of different screen sizes are on the market now.

Flexibility

Things are now more flexible than in the older days. Images can now be automatically adjusted. There had been workarounds so that layouts never break (although they are squeezed and sometimes become illegible at times.

It is not a complete solution but it has far more options. The design is perfect for devices that switch from portrait orientation to landscape in an instant or in instances when the user switches from a large screen computer screen to an iPad.

Some solutions

Before, when flexible layouts were a luxury for sites, the only flexible in the design were the layout columns and the texts. Images could break out a layout’s form when forced. They often cannot adjust from a large computer screen to a netbook.

If resized too small, images would appear to be of low quality, although the name of the site is visible and not being cropped off is important. The images were resized proportionately. It shrinks the image resolution on smaller devices so very large images don’t waste space on small screens.

responsive web design Dallas can create custom solutions for everyone for a wide range of devices.
